HEAR
Train your ears to hear
Our God communicates.
The whole sweep of Scripture and history confirm this.
He has plenty to say, if only he can find a hearer.
“He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
Jesus said this many times.
Even if our mouths are not speaking, we are not good at listening.
-
There is too much noise inside our heads, thoughts running rampant.
-
There is too much external noise, incessant chatter, blocking our ears.
-
Silence makes us uncomfortable. Waiting is not a popular discipline.
-
I’ve too high an opinion of my “sayings”, too low an opinion of other’s.
As to listening for God’s voice
-
We must know His language—the more fluent, the more we hear.
-
Our hunger to hear Him must cause us to strain with alertness.
-
We must silence other voices, meaning we recognize the difference.
-
Our imagination, part of the image of Creator God, must be used.
God’s Language – The Word (in any language)
The more we have read, studied, prayed, meditated upon, shared, memorized, obeyed, eaten (Jeremiah 15:16), and chewed thoroughly Scripture, the more we hear God’s voice.
It is His preferred language.
